Sunset Beach is the west-coast answer to Koh Rong Sanloem’s busier east side: a stretch of soft yellow sand facing the open Gulf of Thailand, backed by jungle and a scattering of rustic bungalow operations. Travellers who make the hike consistently report the same thing — the sand is softer, the water greener, and the crowds thinner than anywhere on Saracen Bay. And yes, the name delivers: this is where the island watches the sun go down.
What it’s like
Off-grid, in the literal sense. Power is limited, wifi is rare to nonexistent, and evenings run on candlelight, cold beers, and conversation. Days are for swimming, snorkelling, and doing nothing at a professional level. If you need to be reachable, stay elsewhere and day-trip in.
How to get there
No ferry stop here either. Land at Saracen Bay (ferry guide), then follow the marked jungle path behind the dive centre — about 35 minutes of real jungle walking, so pack light and bring water. Boat taxis from Saracen or M’Pai Bay do the same trip without the sweat; arrange one through any guesthouse.
Where to stay
A handful of small bungalow spots share the beach — names to look for include Huba Huba, Sleeping Trees, Robinson Bungalows, and Sunboo. Most are simple wooden huts steps from the water, best contacted directly via their Facebook pages. Book ahead in high season: capacity here is tiny.
Nearby beaches
