Lazy Beach, Koh Rong Sanloem

Lazy Beach is a secluded yellow-sand cove on the southwest coast of Koh Rong Sanloem, and it earns its name honestly. There’s one low-key resort, no village, no beach bars competing for volume — just a wide sweep of sand facing the open sea, the kind of “Robinson Crusoe” beach that once landed on National Geographic’s list of the world’s best.

What it’s like

Quiet is the whole product. Days at Lazy Beach are swimming, snorkelling off the rocks at either end, hammocks, books, and some of the island’s best sunset light. After dark, this side of the island is also a good bet for spotting bioluminescent plankton on moonless nights. Don’t expect nightlife, shops, or strong wifi — that’s a feature, not a bug.

How to get there

There’s no ferry stop at Lazy Beach. Take a boat to Saracen Bay (see the ferry guide — the same operators serve both island stops), then walk the marked jungle trail across the island’s narrow waist: roughly 25 minutes, sturdy sandals recommended. Boat taxis from Saracen or M’Pai Bay are the no-sweat alternative and can be arranged through any guesthouse.

Where to stay

Lazy Beach Resort is the beach’s only accommodation — simple wooden bungalows and a restaurant, usually booked directly. If it’s full, or you want more than one dinner option, stay elsewhere and visit: Sunset Beach is the neighbouring cove, and M’Pai Bay makes a livelier base with far more room choice.
